Cayenne chillies are one of the most popular types of chillies in the world. They are part of the Capsicum Annuum species of plants. They are used in many different cuisines to add flavour and heat. Cayenne chillies are native to South America and are named after the city of Cayenne in French Guyana.
Cayenne chillies are usually red, but they can also be yellow, orange, or green. They range in size from about 2 inches to 6 inches long. Cayenne chillies are typically used dried, ground, or as a powder. My favourite way to use Cayenne are in a hot sauce!
How spicy are Cayenne Chilli Peppers?
Cayenne chillies have a Scoville rating of 30,000 to 50,000. This means that they are quite hot, but not as hot as some other types of chillies. There are hot hybrids of cayenne chillies like the Ring of Fire Chilli pepper which can reach 85,000 Scoville!
If you are looking to add some heat to your food, cayenne chillies are a great option. Just be sure to use them sparingly at first, as they can be quite hot.
